Former U.S. Women's Open Champion Hilary Lunke of Austin Hits 2006 LPGA Tour with Twin Creeks in Her Corner

March 01, 2006

You?ll have to pardon the Members and staff at Twin Creeks Country Club for keeping a particularly keen eye on this season?s Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) tour.

Whereas it?s rare when one has the opportunity to see a professional golfer in person, at Twin Creeks many of Members have had the special privilege of meeting and even playing alongside a former U.S. Women?s Open Champion and one of the most well regarded names in the sport.

Hilary Lunke, now in her fifth year on the LPGA tour, often uses the Club?s facilities to stay sharp in between tournaments. And when not working on her own game, she generously takes time out of her schedule to take part in Twin Creek?s highly popular Chix with Stix program, helping female golfers of all ages improve their skills.

?I love practicing and playing at Twin Creeks,? said Hilary. ?The members have been incredibly friendly to me and I feel very welcome. The practice facilities are top notch, and the private nature of the course allows me to get a lot of good work done.?

Giving back to the game of golf comes naturally to Hilary, who has been playing the sport since age 13 and credits another female, Stanford University Golf Coach Caroline O?Connor, with making a significant impact on her game.

?I've been wanting to give back in some way, because I am so thankful to have Twin Creeks as my golf home,? said Hilary. ?I think it's really important that women and junior players are encouraged to get involved with the game, and Chix with Stix is a great vehicle for that. I love to see the smiles on the women?s faces when they connect with a shot or sink a putt. When you play golf for your living, you sometimes only focus on the "job" aspects of golf, but helping others reminds me of the joy of the game.?

Hilary will play the 2006 LPGA season while displaying the Twin Creeks log on her golf bag. This includes her stops at the sport?s four Majors the Kraft Nabisco Championship, LPGA Championship, Women?s British Open, and the U.S. Women?s Open, where in 2003 she made history by winning the tournament in an 18-hole playoff victory, becoming one of only 14 players in LPGA history to make the U.S. Women?s Open her first LPGA victory.

Twin Creeks' Members will no doubt be in Hilary's corner this coming season, and its likely that her performance may even inspire them to take lessons or join programs such as Chix with Stix.
